Graphite susceptors are used for localized, controlled heating of the test sample.
Materials testing and performance evaluation for extreme, high temperature environments.
ISO 9001:2015 certified laboratory that performs standardized and customer-specified materials testing and characterization. We quantify the interdependence between processing, microstructure, properties, and performance for materials used in high temperature applications and extreme environments.
UDRI high-temperature materials researchers engage in the characterization, life prediction, and testing of materials used in extreme environments. We can evaluate the strength, fracture, fatigue, creep, thermophysical properties, and microstructure of materials in varying atmospheric environments and temperatures from -150°C to 1550°C.
Our focus areas include studies of ceramics, metals, ceramic matrix composites, carbon-carbon composites, optical ceramics, thermal barrier coatings, and optical coatings. Our researchers partner with customers to develop tailored materials characterization programs that meet their specific needs, including the development of custom testing solutions.
Our customers include small businesses, ceramics manufacturers, aerospace equipment manufacturers, and US government organizations (primarily the US Air Force). Our team provides materials evaluation expertise that informs our customer’s processing parameters, performance models, and lifetime predictions.
