University of Dayton Research Institute: Materials Sector

Profile

Jared Speltz is the Team Leader for the Laser Manufacturing Technology Development (LMTD) team at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) specializing in laser material interaction and in-situ monitoring: specifically ultrafast laser processes and technology. His work includes developing novel applications utilizing femtosecond lasers. He has built a custom 50W femtosecond research system as well as the Composite Laser Ablation for Composite Preparation (CLASP) system. Prior to joining UDRI in 2017, Mr. Speltz worked at a small business for 6 years in laser manufacturing, not only researching and developing novel laser processes, but also working to optimize those developments at a production scale. Working with laser technology for his entire career, Jared has expertise in ultrafast laser applications, laser material interaction, precision machining, and custom laser workstation development.
