His areas of expertise include aircraft structures (design, analysis, optimization, fatigue, repair), aircraft transparency systems (design, analysis, development, fabrication, testing), probabilistic bird strike risk assessment of critical aircraft components, and ASIP (Aircraft Structural Integrity Program) support.

Research

Mr. Bergman’s system and sustainment engineering research includes work in the following areas:

  • Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP), Service Life Assessment Program (SLAP), and Service Life Extension Program (SLEP)
  • Airworthiness
  • Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Flight vehicle certification and re-certification
  • Operational Safety Suitability and Effectiveness (OSS&E)
  • Reverse engineering
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • System engineering for new vehicles and vehicle upgrades
  • Technical data package development
