Profile
Daniel Rafferty leads the Sensor Test and Evaluation Group comprised of researchers and technicians who assess sensor systems against implementation and performance requirements, develop testing methodologies to support comprehensive system review, and develop targeted requirements specific to customer needs. He has over 16 years of experience in remote sensing research; technical services; team leadership; instrumentation and image/signal processing support; digital imaging sensors; ground truth testing; imaging, radiometric, and spectro-radiometric instruments; and other precision measurement equipment. In addition, he has United States Air Force experience in maintaining precision calibration equipment according to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards.
Research
Research and development activities within the Sensor Test and Evaluation Group include the following:
- Evaluation of customer requirements through lab, field, and flight test activities
- Design, fabrication, and deployment of custom instrumentation, test fixtures, and targets
- Provision of technical expertise and operational studies
- Performance of extensive market studies of available digital sensor systems
- Development of technical requirements and performance parameters based on customer needs
- Provision of digital sensor guidance in order to help create standard procedures
- Establishment of guidelines for the operational use of digital sensor technology
